Be Empowered by the Holy Spirit
Transcript
Hello I’m David Cerullo. Thanks for joining me.
One of the most important things you need to know about the Christian life is found in Paul’s statement to the Galatian in chapter 2 verse 20, that “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

When you invited Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior, He took up residence there through the Holy Spirit. As Paul discovered, the Christian life is NOT you trying to live like Jesus would want you to live—it’s allowing HIM to live His life through you.
This makes all the difference in the world, but many people are frustrated because they’re trying to live as Christians in their own strength instead of His. Sometimes we forget Jesus’ warning in John 15:5 that apart from Him we’ll accomplish nothing. But Philippians 4:13 reminds us that we can do ALL things through Him who strengthens us.
Romans 8:11 tells us that the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead now lives in YOU, giving you His resurrection life and power.
As you study the life of Jesus, you’ll discover how important the Holy Spirit was in the life of Jesus. Luke 1:35 says Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit later when He was baptized by John He was filled with the Holy Spirit and throughout His life, the Holy Spirit empowered Jesus to perform amazing miracles.
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit appeared from time to time as it came upon a person to empower them for a specific task and purpose. For example the Spirit of God came upon men like David and Samson and gave them extraordinary strength in battle/ The Holy Spirit came upon prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel and gave them supernatural insights. In fact, the writers of all the books of the Bible—from Genesis to Revelation—were inspired by the Holy Spirit.
With the resurrection of Jesus and His return to Heaven, we entered into a unique season in the ministry of the Spirit, when the Holy Spirit not only would come upon people for a specific task or purpose but would literally take up residence within each Believer. First Corinthians 6:19 says your body is the “temple of the Holy Spirit.”
The Holy Spirit wants to be your Guide and Counselor, leading you into all truth. He will give you insights about the Scriptures and empower you for life and ministry.
Jesus was born, filled, empowered, and equipped by the Holy Spirit, and so must we. It’s hard for me in these short daily video teachings to go too deep into subjects like this. What does it means to be born, filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit? If you go to our website, www.inspiration.org you’ll find an expanded teaching from me on this subject I believe will be important and helpful to your new life in Christ.
Know this: The Holy Spirit is a gift from God, and He wants to take up residence in you and equip you to do the works of God. Acts 2:39 says the promise of the Holy Spirit is for you, and your children, and to all that are afar off, meaning believers in Jesus in the future tense, even to as many as the Lord our God shall call.
I pray you will be filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit today. Thanks for joining me.
