Prepared for Every Good Work
(Based on Episode 1 “Prepared for Every Good Work” with Kim Crabill)
What You’ll Learn:
Small choices can create meaningful spiritual change. In this session, Kim Crabill shows how simple daily habits can renew your heart, mind, and life—preparing you for the good works God has planned.
The Power of Small Shifts
Do you ever feel slow, sluggish, or in a rut?
What if I could show you how small, daily changes can have a huge impact on your physical, mental, and spiritual life to give you that new-lease-on-life feeling?
Small changes matter. Statistics show that a small shift from sitting to standing can result in significant health benefits. Leaving your isolated environment and getting out among people reduces the epidemic of loneliness. And spiritual boredom and sleepiness can be awakened with small, daily choices.
We’re familiar with health boot camps, right? Today, how about we begin a spiritual boot camp—a detox adventure?
But instead of thinking of what we can’t have, I propose that we focus on freedom instead:
- Freedom from all that slows us down
- And freedom to discover all God has planned for us
When Little Things Become Big
Spiritual detox is born from personal experience. My husband, Lee, had a terrible accident. Suddenly, I found myself not only his life partner, but also his nurse 24/7.
I began like a trooper, but after a few weeks, I began to slip and become a bit snippy. Even worse, I found myself justifying my bad behavior.
Then when I would apologize to Lee, he would make excuses for me. “Well, you are waiting on me hand and foot, doing most everything around here.”
Rationalizing and justifying my behavior did not make it right. The Bible tells us:
Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that spoil the vineyards (Song of Solomon 2:15).
In the grand scheme, it was a little thing. But my little things—like your little things—left unchecked, will grow larger and become a hazard in our spiritual lives.
Why We Need a Spiritual Detox
I decided to do something. And a spiritual cleansing came to mind. You might be wondering why it’s so important. Let me give you two biblical “becauses” and one benefit:
- Because God calls His people to holiness.
- “You shall be holy, for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16 ESV).
- Holiness isn’t about perfection; it’s about choosing God’s ways over the world’s ways.
- Because Ephesians 4:22 reminds you to “put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life.”
- That includes selfishness, bitterness, and pride.
- We align our lives to Jesus Christ: life, heart, mind, actions, words, thoughts.
But here, friends, is the benefit:
“If anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work” (2 Timothy 2:21).
Cleansed and Useful
He couldn’t love us more than He already does, but it makes us more useful in our Father’s hands. And for those works He calls special. I’m in.
How about you?
A Call to Begin
Kim closes this first session by inviting us to take the first two steps in her 7R Detox Plan: Read and Recognize.
-
- Read the Scriptures from this lesson in their full context.
- Recognize the little or big things that need to be detoxed.
Reflection Question:
What little foxes in your life might be spoiling your spiritual vineyard?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for loving me enough to cleanse me. Show me the small things that need to change, so I can become more like You. Purify my heart and make me a vessel fit for Your good purposes. In Jesus’ name, amen.
