How to Experience Perfect Peace
Are you searching for perfect peace in a world filled with busyness and uncertainty? Life’s challenges—whether in your family, finances, or health—can leave you feeling overwhelmed and unsettled. But the Bible offers a profound promise: Perfect peace is available to you when you trust in God and keep your mind focused on Him.
In this lesson from The Power of God’s Word: Part 2, we’ll explore how God’s Word can lead you to divine peace that surpasses all understanding.
Real Peace Starts with God’s Word
God’s Word has the power to completely transform your life.
So many people I meet today struggle for real peace in their life. Circumstances in their family or finances or physical body have caused them to be anxious, unsettled, discouraged, and depressed. They need peace—the kind of peace the Bible says surpasses or goes beyond your understanding or your circumstances.
Real Peace
This week we’re going to talk about how you can experience real peace through the Word of God.
In Philippians 4:6–7, Paul says…
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Notice that phrase: “The peace of God which passes all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
What a wonderful promise! No matter what circumstances you may be going through today, you can receive the promise of God’s Word that His peace will protect and guard your heart and your mind.
Is God’s Peace Conditional?
I find almost every promise in the Word of God is conditional. They are usually accompanied by conditions where God says, if you do “this,” I’ll do “that.” So in order to experience the promise, you have to fulfill the conditions.
You might be thinking, “Dave, what do you mean ‘conditions’?” I’ll read the verse again.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Did you see the conditions?
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”
In order for the peace of God to guard your heart and mind, there are three conditions…
-
- Don’t be anxious about anything. Release your worries to God.
- Pray about everything. Bring all of your concerns before Him in prayer.
- Always be thankful. Maintain a heart of gratitude.
It’s just that simple. If you meet these conditions, God promises His peace will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
Keep Your Mind Focused on Truth
But there’s more. Paul shows us another benefit in the next verse—Philippians 4:8.
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.”
So instead of being anxious or fearful or full of worry, allow the peace of God to guard your heart and mind through prayer, through…
-
- Thankfulness
- Having confidence in God
- Focusing your mind on things that are true, honorable, right, pure, and excellent
Keep your mind focused on God’s Word. God promises in Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You.”
I pray these video messages are strengthening and equipping you to live an abundant, victorious life in Christ.
God bless you.
Reflection Question
What steps can you take this week to keep your mind focused on God’s Word and His promises for peace?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of perfect peace. Help me to release my anxieties, bring my concerns to You in prayer, and keep a heart of gratitude. Teach me to focus my thoughts on what is true, pure, and lovely, so I can experience the peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus’ name, amen.
