Faith Is Born Out of a Relationship with God
Faith grows when you know the One you’re trusting. Start here.
Lesson Summary:
Faith isn’t a formula – it’s personal. In this lesson, Pastor Robyn Gool shows how your trust in God deepens as your relationship with Him grows.
You’ll discover:
- Why biblical faith starts with knowing God
- How personal trust leads to confident faith
- The role of God’s Word in revealing His character
- How Pastor Robyn’s own journey can help fuel yours
Why Faith Begins with Relationship
Let’s talk about one of the most important subject matters in all of the Word of God: faith.
Why is that so important? Because the Bible says in Hebrews 11:6:
“Without faith, it is impossible to please Him. For he that comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.”
Maybe you’re wondering: How do I begin to develop my faith?
Faith is born out of a relationship with God.
The more you know about a person, the more you can trust them – the more you have faith in their integrity.
Faith Grow from Trust
One day I told my wife, “You drive this car today. I’m heading to the office.”
Later on, my wife got in that car, but she wasn’t familiar with it.
- She wasn’t sure how much gas was in the tank.
- The enemy began to play with her mind:
“What if I run out? Can I really make all of my errands?”
But then something rose up inside her:
“I know Robyn. He would never leave me an empty tank.”
That’s faith.
She had peace because she knew me. And faith grows out of relationship.
Know God Through His Word
I want to encourage you today:
Develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
That’s where faith come from – a personal relationship.
- God said about Abraham, “I know Abraham.” God called Abraham a friend.
- Enoch walked with God. He knew God.
- They could trust Him.
Want to grow in faith? Start here:
- Get into the Word of God.
- Read it. Meditate on it. Ponder it.
As you do, you’ll learn what God is really like.
Jesus said:
“If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father.” –John 14:9
Jesus and the Father are one.
Faith Isn’t Guesswork – It’s Based on God’s Character
When I began my own faith journey, I would come home from work and lay down on the floor with two or three Bibles. I just read the Word of God, because I wanted to know what God was like.
This is what I found:
- When I began to know what God would do throughout His Word, people couldn’t tell me negative things about God.
- They couldn’t say, “You know, God did this,” and “God did that.”
- I knew who God really was. When they said those things, I’d say, “Not my God.”
I have read the Bible. I can see what God is like, and I trust Him. And I trust that your faith will also grow as you spend time in the Word of God.
God bless you!
Reflection Question
How would your faith look different if you based it entirely on your relationship with God, rather than just hoping for a result?
Prayer
Father, thank You for inviting me into a real, personal relationship with You. Help me grow in faith as I get to know Your heart through Your Word. Teach me to trust You more each day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
